TECHNOLOGIES
Kenya is at the forefront of technological innovations in the region and is often referred to as Africa’s ‘Silicon Savannah.’ Both the private sector and the Government of Kenya have invested heavily in the ICT sector and have recognized the sector as a key contributor to the country’s GDP. Early technological progress was driven by public investment in internet infrastructure, the meteoric rise of mobile money and a fast-growing economy.
Today, one of the biggest factors attracting big tech to Kenya is the engineering talent, a major factor behind the country approving a new curriculum for secondary and primary school students that will teach coding, a first in Africa. Meanwhile, Africa-focused initiatives are being undertaken by big tech companies. For instance, Google’s $4M Black Founders Fund for early-stage, Black-founded startups in Africa, or Microsoft’s involvement in the development of the new national coding curriculum.
The Naserian Foundation, as part of a Group that drives technological advances in key industries, will seek to support best-in-class talent and businesses, while using cutting edge technology to further its programmes in the country.
